Yvonne Zanos KDKA TV consumer editor no more
The Consumer editor Yvonne Zanos for KDKA TV died today morning, succumbing to ovarian cancer. She was committed to warning consumers about latest product recalls, apart from putting consumer devices to test in the 'Does It Really Do That' segment.

AFTER FIGHTING for many consumers at the KDKA TV since 1997, the Consumer editor Yvonne Zanos died today morning, succumbing to ovarian cancer. The television personality had just turned 60 on Wednesday.

The Miss America pageant winner, Yvonne Zanos was committed to warning consumers about possible scams and latest product recalls, apart from putting latest consumer devices to test in the "Does It Really Do That" segment on KDKA TV. Her commitment to her work was well appreciated and the humanitarian stories done by the Consumer editor got her the Gabriel Award. She was also nominated many times for the Mid Atlantic Emmy and bagged the Patti Burns Award.

Known for charishma and laughter, she married to Pittsburgh footballer Jim Zanos, having two daughters and five grandchildren - four granddaughters and a grandson.

The joy of her life was helping others and she made it a point to put an annual appearence at the Children's Hospital Free Care Fund telethon. She also helped many needy people with the KDKA Turkey Fund. In fact, at the time of the last Thanksgiving, she worked on raising a large amount for the charity, despite her illness.

When she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2007, Yvonne Zanos took it as an challenge and reached out to many survivors of the malaise, when she appeared as an honorary chair of the Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer in October. She also made it a point to spread the message of hope at many schools and community organisations.

Even after death Yvonne Zanos is helping others, as her family have asked people to contribute to the KDKA Turkey Fund, in care of the The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, instead of sending flowers.
