“World should learn from the spirit of Lohri festival, during which everybody, irrespective of his/her background, takes part in the festivities and shares the joy,”Zed said.
After the sunset on Lohri day, families-friends-neighbors gather around bonfire eating rewri-gachchak-moongphali etc., sharing stories, singing and dancing on dhol/dholki beat. During day, children visit neighborhood homes singing Dulla Bhatti and other folk songs and are presented with goodies. Celebrations are at a higher pitch in families where a marriage or childbirth recently happened. Dinner usually includes sarson-da-saag and makki-di-roti with a liberal serving of makkhan. Lohri falls on January 13.
