ACCLAIMED HINDU statesman Rajan Zed has urged religious entities worldwide to adopt social media to reach young adults, youth, and teenagers.
He said social media like Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, hi5, PerfSpot, Netlog, Twitter, etc., were highly accessible and inexpensive; offer excellent visibility and powerful medium to strengthen communities; and provide global platforms. Technology could prove a wonderful connection among diverse religious groups spread worldwide, Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, stated in Nevada (USA) today.Rajan Zed, however, suggested using this form of digital communication “responsibly”. Do not use it as a substitute to face-to-face dialogue but as a tool to provide ways & means to engage in dialogue and to build communities. Always define communication boundaries and set-up codes of conduct.
Conventional style of dealing with spirituality and religion did not appear to be effectively working, especially with today’s youth. Shape it into something more exciting and challenging, livelier and not stagnant, Zed argued.
