Former union minister of railways Lalu Prasad Yadav while presenting interim railway budget in Lok Sabha announced the introduction of 43 new trains in year 2009-10.
- The wait for India's first double decker train will come to an end in 2011-2012 ; these trains will run on Mumbai-Ahmedabad and Howrah-Daund routes.
- The work on the new broad gauge (BG) lines being laid on Jayanagar-Darbhanga-Sitamarhi-Bargania-Bikhnatori route under Samastipur division of East Central Railway (ECR) is likely to complete by 2011-2012 which will bring the Raxaul-Sitamarhi-Darbhnaga-Nirmali-Forbesganj-Kishanganj route on the map of the Indian Railways development network.
