Will MNC-driven multi-brand retail shops cause closure of kirana stores in Gurgaon?
The government of India has taken a policy decision to allow MNCs majority stake in multi-brand retail outlets, and Haryana's Chief Minister has endorsed this decision. In a few years, the same products that local shops sell will be sold at lower prices at large multi-brand retail outlets - making bulk-buying attractive for many buyers even if they have the choice of buying similar products from the local kirana shop. Will multi-brand outlets lead to phasing out of local shops in Gurgaon?
