Peacock poaching continues unabated in Rajasthan

The menace of peacock poaching reaches its peak every year during the rainy season in Rajasthan. Around two dozen peacocks were found dead on Monday in two villages in the districts adjoining the state capital Jaipur. It is suspected that the peacocks died due to the grains which were laced with poison allegedly by the poachers.

In Jaipur, World Bird Week (May 4-12) was inaugurated by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlaut at his residence in the city in the presence of bird lovers, scouts, girl guides and other officials on May 4. Gehlaut tied a 'Parinda' - a bird's feeding place - on a tree in his official residence to launch a statewide 'Prinda Abhiyan' for the welfare of birds during hot summer days. The state level Scouts and Girl Guide Organisation is going to spearhead the observance of the week dedicated to the care and protection of birds.
