Odisha Police Bill - 2015 already is tabled in the Odisha Legislative Assembly in March Session. But Civil Society of the state has opposed the bill in the present form. They alleged it is not in conformity with the Supreme Court's directives, and there are concerns of non conformity with accepted human rights standards.
At least 100 bonded labours have been released in Madhubani District of Bihar after the intervention of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). Acting on the complaint of a social worker Tojo Jose NHRC has earlier issued notice and directed to release and rehabilitate the bonded labour according to the provision.
The National Human Rights Commission has sought a report from Health department of Odisha over mismanagement of sterilization camp in Dhenkanal. Acting on a complaint of this citizen journalist who is also a human rights activist (Akhand), the commission has directed the principal secretary of health and family welfare departments to file a report in the matter within six weeks.
