Where is the 'Honour' in 'Honour' killing?

The word 'honour' tends to confuse when used with 'killing'. Is honour restored or lost when somebody is killed on the pretext on restoring it? This is plain killing, murder and indeed a case of rarest of rare kind of behaviour.
