Farmers in Vidarbha continue to take their own life as the State Govt.'s apathy towards the crisis situation continue. Most of the farm suicides are from villages which are flood affected and flood salvaged area but administration and babus have not moved out of A/C cabins to visit a single family where debt trapped and aid starved farmers committed suicide.
Yavatmal District, the epicenter of Vidarbha farmer suicide has reported 24 suicides since June 2013 to till date after heavy rain and flood damaged crop as reported by the media. Vidarbha Janandolan Samiti (VJAS) has alleged that despite this the local administration has turned blind eye over the suicides committed by the innocent farmers.
Tribal farm widows Kavita Santosh Sidam of village Mangi and Radha Anil Marape of village Thanegoan in Yavatmal district whose husbands committed suicide last week due to crop damages in heavy floods have urged Mahrashtra Chief Minister Prithiviraj Chavan, who is on Vidarbha tour to assess the flood damages, to visit their homes to witness their sufferings.
Kishore Tiwari, President of Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS), an activity group working for farmer and tribal welfare termed Shiv Sena supremo Udhav Thackeray opposition to the creation of Vidarbha state as unfortunate and demanded that the BJP, which is backing separate Telangana, declare its national policy on Vidarbha.
