North East Exodus: Are we safe in our own country?

The recent reports of northeastern people fleeing from major Indian cities like Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad is reiterating the fact that we don't feel safe in our own country. Incidents like this question the notion of my identity as an Indian. Rumours, sms', and mms' have been circulated around causing fear among people from the northeastern region.

Where is my identity as an Indian?

For an Indian living in Delhi or Bangalore, the way a protagonist in a Bollywood Masala movie sacrificies his life for the country might be an entertainment, but for me, this is just a lop-sided portrayal of a soldier who rapes and kills innocents in Manipur with impunity.
