Two minor girls belonging to the Chakma tribe were abducted from a remote village in Assam's Nagaon district and later sold by traffickers in Mumbai. Two of the traffickers have been arrested but the police are yet to trace the minor victims.

On August 21, six Chakma students were forcefully removed from a government school by the principal in Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh. The students were admitted following interventions by NCPCR. Earlier on August 13, eight students from the same community were removed from the school.
