THE TWO  Italian  tourists  who  are  being  held  hostage  by  the  Maoists  in  Odisha  Kandhamal  district. One  of  the  two  Italian  Bosusco  Paolo, has  been  visiting  odisha  since  1999  and  running  a  travel  agency in  Puri , the  other  Claudio  Colangelo, is  a  tourist. The  two  were  kidnapped  from  Kandhamal  Ganjam  border  on  Saturday  night.

Santosh  Maharana, a  local  who  was  also  kidnapped  by  the  Maoists  with  the  Italians  has  been  released . He  said  that  the  kidnapping  took  place  on  march  14^th. All  they  were  taken  to  a  forest,  where  they  were  well  treated  by  the  Maoists. The  Maoists  said  on  an  audio  message  to  the  news  men  claiming  their  responsibility.

The  state  govt.  had  managed  to  get  the then  Malkangiri  collector Mr. Vineel  Krishna `s  release  after  9  days  last  year  in  February, but  failed  to  implement  the  demands  agreed  and  signed  in  an  agreement. But  the  other  side  false  cases  are being  initiated  against  the  innocent  tribals  in  south  Odisha  and  put  them  inside  the  jails  without  even  sparing  the  elected  representatives. However  this  time  once  again  the  state  govt  has  expressed  willingness  to  hold  talks  with  the  Maoists, said  U.N.Behera  home  secretary  Odisha.

A  sources  close  to  Maoists  said  that  the  Maoists  will  not  appoint  mediators  this  time  because  in  the  abduction  case  of  of  the  collector, the  state  govt.  did  not  honour  its  promises.  The  Maoists  demanded  for  an  immediate  halt combing  operation  and  by  releasing  Gananath  Patra, Sabyasachi`s  wife  Subhasri  Panda  and  Asutosh  Soren. The  Maoists also  want  the  state  govt. to  act  on  the  13  point  charter  of  demands  which  include  the  long  standing  demands  like  the  release  of  tribals  confined  in  jails  in  the  name  of  naxalities  and  to  stop  operation  green  haunt. The  incident  is  being  played  in  a  big  way  by  the  Italian  media. Italian  council  general  JEOL, M.Melchiori  reached  Bhubaneswar  and  had  a  discussion  with  the  govt  officials  for  the  release  of  abducted  Italians. When  the then  collector  Malkangiri`s  abduction  was  a  national  issue,  this  present  incident  of  abduction  of  Italians  became  an  international  issue.  However the Anti Naxal Combing Operation by the security force put to end from Saturday last, according to the source of police information.
