The nation is celebrating the 150th Birth anniversary year of Rabindranath Tagore and many events are slated to honour the works of the great poet, writer and educationist.
On February 20, in Kolkata, Nobel laureate Amartya Sen was awarded special Rabindra Smriti Puraskar by a state-level committee instituted by the West Bengal government. The award consisted of Rs one lakh as prize money and a citation.
At a special function organised for the pupose, the award was presented to Amartya Sen by eminent poet Nirendra Nath Chakraborty. Minister of State for Information and Cultural Affairs S N Beraat were also present on the occasion.
On anniversary celebrations of Rabindranath Tagore, Amartya Sen thanked the state government for the honour accorded to him.
