Anti-Bara and Karchana Thermal Power protests held in Allahabad
Kabir | 17 Apr 2014

CPI(ML) ND campaign being conducted by hundreds of sand workers yesterday in village Padua on the Jamuna banks, 50 kms from Allahabad. It is against lifting of more than 120 million litres of water per day each for Bara and Karchana Thermal Power Plants from Jamuna river at Padua village.

The huge 30 metre circumference well and pump house to suck water is dug deep, right in the middle of the water flow so that the well never runs dry. Once the water is drawn, it will dry up the Jamuna, depleting the water table, preventing all lift irrigation canals from operating and destroying all river bed farming, fishing, sand mining.

This has been made an important issue of the Lok Sabha campaign by CPI ML leader Comrade Heeralal, the motive being to save livelihood of lakhs of people and prevent water scarcity in the city and villages.

In contrast, BJP and Congress are promoting such mega projects and building of 100 new cities by displacing villages, Reoti Raman Singh of SP says this, one air port and two cities are his 'Vikas ki Ganga' and these plants were begun by BSP govt.
