Bangladesh appoints maiden envoy to Mumbai

Bangladesh government has appointed the first ever Deputy High Commissioner in Mumbai. The Government of India has conveyed its concurrence to this appointment.

Bangladesh government has appointed the first ever Deputy High Commissioner in Mumbai. Samina Naz, the Director General of Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be the first Bangladesh envoy to Mumbai, beside Kolkata and Delhi. Meanwhile, the Government of India has conveyed its concurrence to the appointment of Ms. Samina Naz as the first Deputy High Commissioner of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Mumbai, a press release issued by Indian High Commission here at Dhaka said on August 13.   
The Deputy High Commission will have consular jurisdiction over the States of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Goa and Union Territories of Puducherry and Daman & Diu. The decision to open a new Deputy High Commission in Mumbai is in pursuance of the agreement reached between the Prime Ministers of India and Bangladesh as reflected in the Joint Communiqué issued during the visit of Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh to India in January, 2010.
With the opening of the new Deputy High Commission in Mumbai, Bangladesh will have four diplomatic representations in India, like New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and a Visa Office in Agartala. A visa office in Guwahati is about to open later this year.
