Jammu, May 24: Hitting out J&K Dharmarth Trust for not facilitating pilgrims at Shri Raghunath Temple, Shri Raghunath Ji Mandir Sewa Samiti (SRMSS) on Wednesday alleged that rude behaviour of priests at this temple and their money looting approach made visiting pilgrims very disappointed at this holy place.
"The famous Raghunath temple of Jammu has been a favourite place for tourists and pilgrims visiting Jammu and specially those coming for Darshans of the Holy Shrine of Maa Vaishno Devi but pilgrims coming from other states to this temple in a video viral on social media said that that the priests of this temple are trained in a special way to extort money from people and to humiliate the people who are not capable of donating high donation amounts," Samiti President Rajiv Mahajan said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
In the video, he said, the pilgrims alleged that the priests further try to get the maximum amount of money that you have in your pockets by asking you to pay the money in name of various prayers irrespective if you want to donate for those prayers or not.
Even if one member of the family pays an amount, his accompanying family members are humiliated and not given blessings and Prasad, pilgrims said.
He alleged that the entire culture of temple is developed around extorting money from people visiting the temple. This is so bad and needs to be stopped immediately to maintain the sanctity of the temple.
He asked trust managing this temple to remove all corrupt priests and appoint some saintly, polite and religious people who help in developing faith of people rather than distracting them by their money centric acts.
"Behaviour of priests of this temple leaves a very negative image of Jammu and its people. People of Jammu are so nice, but after visiting this temple pilgrims feel looted and disappointed to an extreme," he said.
Rajiv Mahajan asked Senior Congress leader Dr Karan Singh, who is also the Chairman Trustee of Dharmarth Trust, to clear his stand on this issue and initiate investigation in money looting approach of priests of the temples as it is a shame of these people sitting out there.
He also asked Dr Karan Singh to install more CCTVs in the temple premises to keep check on the mal functioning of the priests.
He requested to local administration to do the needful to change the priests and let people enjoy their visit instead of scaring them of being looted while they go to take blessings of their beloved deities.
