Border Security Force personnel have successfully seized four packets of contraband suspected to be heroin, worth Rs.20 crore in the international market, on Punjab border today in the area of BorderOut Post(BOP) Pachharian, FerozepurSector.
Keeping in view the vulnerability of Border from smuggling point of view, Ajay Kumar Tomar, IPS, Inspector General BSF Punjab Frontier has issued operational guidelines to further strengthen border domination especially in riverside areas in view of foggy weather so as to effectively check the menace of narcotics smuggling on Punjab border with Pakistan. Subsequently, A K Sharma, DIG Sector BSF Abohar has also issued necessary instructions to under command Units to maintain extra vigil on border to thwart the attempts of smugglers /ANEs.
He further said that the troops were on high alert as inputs were received regarding threat of smuggling from the area of Border Out Post Pachharian. On 04th March 2014, BSF troops deployed with surveillance equipments in the area of responsibility of Border Out Post Pachharian, Ferozepur Sector observed suspicious movement on the right bank of River Satluj in the vicinity of International Boundary in the early morning and saw something floating in water along river bank. Immediately BSF troops challenged the smugglers and sensing danger to their life, fired four rounds on them in self defence and to prevent smuggling attempt. However, the smugglers managed to escape taking advantage of darkness and thick growth of Sarkanda.
Tomar said, during search of the area there has been recovery of four packets of contraband suspected to be heroin filled inside rubber tube of a light vehicle tied with Jal Kumbi for camouflage (tropical duck weed) with long nylon rope. This is the first ever consignment recovered in the AOR of Ferozepur Sector wherein floating method has been used for smuggling purpose. The place of occurrence is at a distance of approx 250 meters from International Boundary in Indian Territory.
The enhanced vigil of BSF troops has once again thwarted the attempt of smugglers/ANEs to smuggle contraband items into India.
It may mention that in continuing with its drive against heightened activities of smugglers/Anti National Elements, BSF has also seized 96.430 kg heroin, FICN of Rs.4 lakh, 9 weapons, 11 magazines, 7 Pak mobiles, 9 Pak SIMs apart from interdiction with 2 Pak Smugglers, 3 Pak intruders, one Pak border crossers apprehended, 2 Indian border crossers, one Bangladesh national apprehended during the year 2014 on Punjab Border.
