Yet another non-Naga businessman in Dimapur was killed after being abducted 3 days back by armed miscreants.
Prasanjit Dhar was abducted from his residence in Lhomthi Colony, Dimapur on October 16 by 3 non-locals and 2 locals. His dead body was recovered from Bor Lengri, Karbi Anglong (Assam) with his throat slit. He was also badly tortured before he was brutally killed.
Dimapur Police, who have been investigating the case, have so far could not establish any facts.
According to sources this is the fourth incident in Lhumthi colony where businessmen have been targeted by armed miscreants. The modus operandi in all the incidents has been same, where Nagas and non-Nagas have been involved. All these incidents have occurred early morning. At least in two incidents, Dimapur police have managed to rescue the victims from the clutches of the armed miscreants.
While the entire Bengali community today expressed solidarity with the victim’s family over the brutal murder of Prasanjit alias Paul, the business community has been on a divided opinion regarding the closure of shops in protest over the killing one of their members.
This incident of abduction and murder has created a fear psychosis amongst the business community, who lives are at stake and whose families are not secure as the incidents of extortion, abduction etc. have been increasing in Dimapur town. Such incidents have not only hampered the business in this commercial hub of the state, but also the economy of the state has declined by 30% in the recent days.
Sources say that Dimapur has become safe haven for many criminals and Northeast militants taking advantage of the current ceasefire between the Centre and the NSCN factions.
Meanwhile, after the dead body was brought to Dimapur District Hospital, the family members and friends had to wait for more than 4 hours, as there was no Doctor available to conduct Post-Mortem.
Sources from the Bengali community rued the laxity in the services available in the Hospital and said that non-availability of Doctors in the hospital should be viewed seriously as in emergency cases, patients would suffer and even die.
While the Crime Graph of Dimapur district has been rising, many businessmen have already left Dimapur and settled elsewhere in other parts of the country. Sources informed that many businessmen are planning to shift their business, as they are facing untold sufferings from antisocial elements and miscreants in the form of extortion, intimidation and abductions.
