CBI out of RTI?

Such a step will further increase misuse of CBI by political rulers for their political requirements as is evident in many cases, a bitter fact also endorsed by former CBI directors.

IT REFERS to reports about Solicitor General of India advocating for keeping CBI out of purview of RTI Act under section 24 of the Act by including country’s premier investigating agency the second schedule of RTI Act. Such a step will further increase misuse of CBI by political rulers for their political requirements as is evident in many cases, a bitter fact also endorsed by former CBI directors.

Section 8 of RTI Act provides adequate and vast coverage for exemptions from disclosures under RTI Act, and in fact section 24 of RTI Act is not needed at all. Even recently held National RTI convention with NAC member Aruna Roy as chairperson and attended by senior ones in system like state-Governor, Chief Information Commissioner and DoPT officials etc in ‘Shillong Declaration’ unanimously passed to altogether delete second scheduled of RTI Act without any need to amend RTI Act to delete section 24 of RTI Act.
