CHENNAI CENTRAL RAILWAY STATION SHUT DOWN FOR 12 HRS TODAY 9AM TO 9PM. 
 
First time Central RailwayChennai has been closed for 12Hrs from 9Am to 9 PM night today due to development work the Central Station with thousand of commuters round the clock wore a deserted look as the Southern Railway authorities have rescheduled , regulated or even cancelled several trains for the day The EMU service between Chennai Central – Arakkonam were also Suspended and were operated on hourly basis from Chennai Beach to Arakkonam.  

 

The station was closed from 0900hrs and it would be opened at 2100hrs tonight after developmental works, which includes extention of platforms 3 , 4 , and 5 to accommodate trains having 24 Coaches , besides reconditioning of railway tracks and take up signaling work. All present the platform could only accommodate trains with 22 coaches .This development works had been taken up in a phased manner at a cost of Rs 2.58 crore and the final phase of it was beign implemented today , leading a total Stut down, with no incoming or out going trains from the station.

The timing of several incoming and out going trains  were rescheduled and several trains were terminated at Arakkonam and Perambur .The passengers got some difficulties to travel today but the maintenance also needed some time for the passengers side .

Some of the trains were operated through Chennai Egmore Railway station. Help desks were opened at the station to guide the passengers about the rescheduling of trains and where to board them. Minister of State for Railways E Ahmed visited the station and expressed satisfaction over the developmental works at the station.


Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) operated 250 special buses from various Destinations.for the benefit of passengers who would be taking trains from other stations and those arriving by long distance trains.
