Following the lead of Hyderabad city police, the Cyberabad police too set up 60 SHE Teams, to check eve-teasing and harassment of women in public places.

"Women safety measures taken up in the IT corridor after the 'Abhaya' rape incident are now being extended to the entire area under Cyberabad police. We have identified 200 hotspots such as bus stops, colleges, important junctions where women gather in large numbers and where there is a likelihood of them being stalked or teased," said Cyberabad police commissioner C V Anand.

This is part of efforts of the Telangana State government, which is working on several initiatives such as dedicated women helpline number '181', a call centre to monitor vehicles dedicated for women in distress, a one-stop crisis centre for women, banning pornographic sites, among others.

Each SHE Team would be headed by an SI/ASI rank officer and would consist of women constables. The SHE Teams will be in mufti and are provided with spy cams to record the acts of eve-teasers and stalkers. They will keep a tight vigil on all the identified hotspots and take into custody those persons found harassing women,

A dedicated "Women Help Desk" will be established at each of the 43 law and order police stations of Cyberabad to offer counseling to women in distress. "A CAW (Crime Against Women) Cell is being started at the Cyberabad CP's office in Gachibowli. CAW Cell will be used by the SHE Teams to counsel the accused and also to coordinate their activities among themselves.  A Facebook page for SHE Teams has also been launched. Complaints received through this page will also be acted upon.

DCP Malkajgiri Rama Rajeswari who is heading the SHE Teams informed that large-scale awareness sessions will also be conducted as a part of the initiative. "We would paste stickers in autos, cabs, buses to increase awareness about SHE Teams. In addition to that, posters and pamphlets will be distributed in all colleges and schools in Cyberabad. We are also planning to create 60 to 90 second educational films on eve teasing and stalking," she added.

They would conduct counseling for the accused at CAW Cell immediately after taking them into custody. "If the accused is a married person, we would also call his wife and children for the counseling sessions. The SHE Teams will also work in coordination with complaints received through 'Dial 100'," she said.

Vice-president of Women's Forum of Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) Mamta Vegunta said that in the two months since the formation of the forum, they reached out to close to 15,000 techies in various IT campuses and IT parks and educated them on issues concerning women's safety. "We are conveying them the safety measures already in place and trying to convince them about the need to be alert. By 2015 we plan to cover as many companies as possible in the IT corridor," Mamta said.
