Farmers staged demonstration in front of Revenue Divisional Commissioners office in Berhampur, condemning the killing of agitating farmers in Madhya Pradesh and demanded an appropriate sharecroppers Act in Odisha

Farmers led by All India Kishan Mazdoor Sabha (AIKMS) national secretary Bhala Chandra Sadongi demonstrated, in front of Revenue Divisional Commissioners office in Berhampur, condemning the killing of agitating farmers in Madhya Pradesh and demanded an appropriate sharecroppers Act in Odisha.

AIKMS leader Sadongi alleged that the Modi Government had been shading crocodiles tear as it has failed in addressing the problems of farmers as per their election manifesto assuring the farmers 50 percent profit for the produce besides decreasing allocations for the agriculture in the union budget. "Thousands of farmers have committed suicide owing to loan burden. Farmers have been going through a difficult phase due to demonetization. When the farmers agitate demanding their due share, the government is killing them," lamented Sadongi advocating all type of loan waiver for farmers.

Pitabash Pradhan of the AIKMS criticised the Odisha Government alleging that despite assurance of enacting law for the sharecroppers, the state was failing and was not showing any interest through the years. "Instead of providing justice to the farmers, the state is asking for proof of sharecroppers," rued Kalu Charan Nayak demanding an Act in the line of West Bengal's Burden of Proof fixing the responsibility on land owners instead of sharecroppers.
