Gang of ATM cheats busted in Punjab's Fazilka, four arrested

With the arrest four persons on last Friday, the police claimed to have busted a gang involved in fraudulent pilferage of cash from different ATMs at Fazilka, Malout and Muktsar in Punjab.

SSP Swapan Sharma disclosed in a press conference that Jasbir Singh, Supervisor of SDB Security Service Pvt. Ltd in a written complaint to the police said that Jagsir Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Gurcharan Singh, employees of the agency work as custodians and put cash in the ATM machines of different banks at Fazilka, Malout and Muktsar.

These employees embezzled the amount from the ATM machines by misusing the responsibility assigned to them.

A team consisting of Harjit Singh,SP Abohar, Gurmeet Singh, SP(D),Fazilka, Rajinder Kumar, Incharge CIA Staff Fazilka, Bitan Kumar, SHO.

During the checking the police party at different places, arrested Mukesh Kumar and Gurcharan Singh. During investigation, the arrested persons disclosed that came in contact with Rupinder Singh and Paviter Singh of Balamgarh in Muktsar.

Rupinder Singh and Paviter Singh allured Jagsir Singh about one year back stating that they are producing a Punjabi film titled "Kinna Karde Ha Pyar"  and its release is held up due to paucity of funds.  Since you are working for putting a cash in the ATMs and in case you invest for completion of the film, we will return you in double.

According to SSP, the accused admitted they become greedy and started paying the cash by withdrawing from ATMs to Rupinder Singh and Paviter Singh.

Further disclosed that the accused the adopted the modus operandi of shifting the case from one ATM to another ATM where the checking was to be carried out.

When a team for checking of ATM machines was sent from Chandigarh, we all were frightened and planed to shift to some other state along with the money and film discs.

The  ATM machines involved are 3 of SBI, 1 of Central Bank of India, 2 of ICICI bank at Muktsar and one at Fazilka and the withdrawal from each machine is Rs.10 to 20 lakhs.  In all, the accused have withdrawn Rs.1.15 crore different ATMs which was given to the film producers which neither they returned the amount nor the profit.

For the remaining money, they had purchased 2 new Innova and one I20 vehicles which have been recovered at the disclosed designated places besides recovery of Rs.44 lakh from different places.

Besides Gurcharan Singh Mukesh, Rupinder Singh and Paviter Singh have been arrested.

All have been booked under Sections 380, 408, 409, 420and 120-B of IPC.

Had this action not been there, the film was almost ready and in few days, its trailer and poster would have been released.
