NARAYANAN SIVARAMAN | 19 Jun 2012

The article is about the proposed joint entrance for IITs by union government and the concerns of professors in IITs about taking away their autonomy.

THE PRIME MINISTER Dr. Manmohan Singh has assured the Faculty of IIT professors about the autonomy of IIT’s won’t be taken away. The faculty professor’s of IITs has opposed the move to conduct the common entrance test because they fear that the autonomy of IITs will be eroded.

However the Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal has remained firm on conducting the common entrance examination. The IIT professors who met the PM on Friday told the media that they have told the PM about the concerns on conducting CEE.

The PM told them that he would talk to the HRD Minister in this regard. They told the PM if any changes for the IITs entrance exams it shall be implemented from 2013. The proposed CEE will put a burden on students rather than reducing it. The union government has announced that a CEE will conduct for entering IITs. The IIT Kanpur has opposed the CEE and announced that it would conduct a separate entrance examination.
