Inside BJP
Vinod Anand | 10 Mar 2012

What's cooking inside BJP? Advani never talks about internal bickering. And during his Allahabad visit for a wedding, 3 confined himself to Congress bashing which is his favourite method of sidetracking internal rifts.

ADVANI NEVER talks about internal bickering. And during his Allahabad visit for a wedding, he confined himself to Congress bashing which is his favourite method of sidetracking internal rifts. But some facts are too important to be ignored, especially the Modi factor. The party was so sure that Narendra Modi would come to UP to take part in the election campaign even though he gave no indication whatsoever whether or not he would be coming. Now finally it has been said that Modi will not come.

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, who had been insisting that the Gujarat Chief Minister will certainly come, should now be finding it very embarrassing. Why he has not come is not unknown. Modi is not pleased with some of the decisions taken by Nitin Gadkari. Besides, Modi has apparently guessed that the party has no future in the state and that the chances of its electoral victory are dwindling fast.

But Gadkari is saying that BJP will win on its own, that it will come to power and that the Chief Minister would be Uma Bharti whom he has been praising and extolling in the most flattering terms, ignoring the veterans who have stood by the party through thick and thin. At one place he said ?that Uma will run the State a efficiently as she governed Madhya Pradesh when she was the Chief Minister there, If Uma had indeed been so successful in Madhya Pradesh as to be considered for the same post in UP, many people may like to ask him why she was eased out from ?MP and not taken back even though she had been cleared by the courts?

Or is Gadkari staging a drama? He apparently is convinced that BJP will not come to power in U.P. That is why he is tempting her, with the Chief Ministerial lollipop. Had there been even a small chance of the BJP making it to the top, Gadkari would have said that elected representatives will choose their ?leader after the elections. Ignoring the ground reality for the moment and assuming that the BJP bags absolute majority, what will happen then? Gadkari alone will not be there to celebrate. Sushma and Jaitley in all likelihood will be rushing to Lucknow to resolve the leadership issue. Gadkari in a way is playing with the sentiments of Uma Bharti while annoying the popular and experienced BJP leaders of the State. Seasoned as she is, it is surprising how she has swallowed the bait. Or has she?
