The Coalition parters in the Congress led UPA government have already started preparing for the general elections. Moreover, Jammu and Kashmir would also undergo assembly elections this year end. In pre-poll exercise, Garib Rath Express would be flagged

rattan sharma April 5 - Union Minister for Railways Lalu Prasad Yadav would flag off the new train Garib Rath Express from Jammu on April 6. He would also lay the foundation of electrification work on Jammu- Jallandhar double rail track.


Official sources said, Lalu Prasad Yadav would flag off the new train Garib Rath Express 2208DN & 2207UP started between Jammu Tawi to Kathgodam (UP) on April 6 at 11 am. Comprising of 12 coaches with 81 seats each, the Garib Rath Express is fully air-conditioned. The train would leave from Jammu at 11.55 pm on every Sunday and reaches Kathgodm at 2.35 pm on Monday. On Monday, it will again leave from Kath Godown at 6.30 pm and reach Jammu Tawi at 9.35 am on Tuesday initially once in a week.

The Railway Ministry has projected a profit of 37,000 crore in 2009.

The authorities have provided 25 percent discount on passenger fare on the pattern of Rajdani Express started by Lalu Prasad Yadav between Jammu Tawi to New Delhi daily.

Besides J&K Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad,           Union Minister for Water Resources Prof Saifuddin Soz, MoS Railways Naranbhal J Rathwa and R Velu, Union Minister of State for Industries & Commerce Ashwani Kumar would also grace the occasion.

District Development Commissioner Jammu, Hirdesh Kumar Singh discussed the arrangements for the visit of Railway Minister to Jammu in an officers meet.
