Leaders greet people on occasion of Onam

The President, Vice President and Prime Minister have greeted people on the occasion of Onam festival being celebrated today, informed PIB releases. President Pranab Mukherjee in his message said, "On the auspicious occasion of Onam, I express my warm greetings to the people of Kerala, and all Malayalis across India and the world."

He added, "The people of Kerala, irrespective of caste, religion and economic status join the festivities, giving it a strong secular mooring. Onam symbolizes the yearning of people for a just and caring social order as well as a political system that gives primacy to good governance."

The Vice President of India M. Hamid Ansari said that Onam festival, transcending all barriers and uniting us in a common brotherhood. "I extend my greetings and good wishes to the citizens of our country on the auspicious occasion of Onam," he said in his message and added, "May this festival foster unity, harmony and prosperity in our society."

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi called Onam a symbol of national integration, justice, peace and prosperity on the occasion and in his message said, "Greetings to Malayali friends on Onam. May Onam enhance the spirit of peace, prosperity, brotherhood and truthfulness in our lives."

He added, "It is wonderful how all sections of Malayali society come together to celebrate Onam, making it a wonderful occasion of national integration. Onam reminds us of the glorious era of King Mahabali and is a day to reaffirm our commitment to create a just, peaceful & prosperous society."
