Malala Yusufzai narrowly misses Nobel Peace Prize which goes to OPCW
Satbir Singh Bedi | 14 Oct 2013

Malala Yusufzai, the sixteen year old Pakistani girl who was shot in the head by the Taliban for insisting on education for the girls as the latter thought that girls should not be educated according to their interpretation of the Holy Quran and who was the front runner for the Nobel Peace Prize, narrowly missed the Prize which went to the Organisation for Prevention of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) which is currently overseeing the destruction of Chemical Weapons in Syria.

This decision seems to have been taken by the concerned Committee under pressure of United States who are insisting on the destruction of such weapons in Syria. Malala Yusufzai had lived on despite being shot in the head as she was taken to London where she went surgery successfully.  Millions of people had supported her nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize as she wanted to ensure education for all, particularly for the women.  She seems to have become a victim of political pressure yielded by the United States on the Nobel Prize Committee.  She has stated that she wants to see that every child irrespective of race, sex or creed gets education and that day, according to her is not far off.
