"The role of the media is very important in the mass awareness for Routine Immunization in the society. The death of the child affects the health of the mother badly. It also reduces the life of the mother.Media should aware the society about Routine Immunization for healthy and happy kids world.We can spread this message to every villages easily by media."said Ramdhani Singh, health minister of Bihar during his inaugural speech in Regional Media Workshop on Routine Immunization (RI) on Thursday at Hotel Pataliputra Ashok in Patna.
This two days regional media workshop was jointly organized from September 24- 25 ,2014 by UNICEF India and Samyak Foundation in Patna.It was jointly inaugurated by Ramdhani Singh, health minister of Bihar, Yameen Mazumdar, chief of field office, Bihar, Rahul Dev, founding trustee, Samyak Foundation, Dr Panna Chaudhary, executive director of Indian Academy of Pediatrician, Nirupanh Gupta, communication specialist, UNICEF Bihar, Dr N.K Sinha, state immunization officer, Bihar ,Sonia Sarkar, communication officer, UNICEF India and Neena Jha, assistant director, IPRD ,Bihar by lighting the lamp.On this occasion information kits on Pentavalent Vaccine was also introduced by them. Pentavalent Vaccine would be used from October in Bihar.
In this workshop about 70 mediapersons from 6 states Delhi, Bihar, UP, Jharkhand, Orissa and Assam participated. Senior Journalist and founding trustee of Samyak Foundation was the anchor of this workshop.Radio jingles of Radio jockey Shashi like Gabber and Bhulni were the main attraction of the programme.Total 8 groups of the journalists visited different Government Primary Health Centres ,Anganwadi Kendra and Cold Chains of Patna,Danapur and Khagaul for field study, observations and discussions.
"Media has a key stakeholder in developmental issues like routine immunization. RI is the simple intervention for the strengthening the health services for saving about 4 lakhs children every year.Journalists can help by informing and sensitizing the people on RI issues in the society. "said Dr Yameen Mazumdar, chief of field office,Bihar to the participants.
"There is zero percent chance of death of child due to immunization, because the colour indicator of vaccine changes after the expiry of the date.RI is just like the safety jacket of Danveer Karna of Mahabharta."said Nirupanh Gupta,communication specialist.
"Our health journalists should write good stories to combat the challenges and the myths about the immunization in the society for the success of the RI prrogramme like Polio elimination.Main objective of this workshop was to develop a pool of responsible and committed journalists/editors who can advocates of RI meeting the goals of the State Immunization Agenda."Rahul Dev,founding trustee, Samyak Foundation advised the participants.

Health stories must be on the first page of the newspaper.The role Radio jingles of RI on Radio FM like Gabber and Bhulani are also very popular in the society.Pentavalent vaccine contains vaccines against Hib infection,in addition to diphtheria,pertussis,tetanus and Hepatitis-B" said Sonia Sarkar, communication officer, UNICEF India.
