PM Narendra Modi should not have expanded his Council of Ministers. He should know that the Government works best which is slim and trim. Also these ministers are burden on the public exchequer and lead to wasteful expenditure.
They need large staff, big bungalows and huge staff cars as well as extra security guards which all add to public expenditure. Moreover, their telephone bills and the tea bills as well as the parties thrown by them run into crore of rupees.
Now, we have two ministers for the ministry of minorities which actually should be wound up. There is also no need of ministry of fertilisers, ministry of steel, etc. if all the subsidies are done away with and all the licences are abolished as part of economic reforms.
In fact, there is Geetakrishnan report which has been given by former expenditure Secretary asking for the abolition of many Ministries and pruning of Government staff.
However, even many years after its submission, it is yet to be acted upon. It seems that the expansion of the Ministry has been done with a view to accommodating more and more politicians and not keeping in mind the public welfare.
