"Nalanda Open University has done a good work to build successful citizens and social guards in Bihar.This university has been accomplishing this task by imparting education to the students who come from rural areas and unable to take conventional system of education due to poor economic background.This kind of university can bring socio-economic transformation by expanding education in under privileged in the state," said Jeetan Ram Manjhi the chief minister of Bihar in his message during the inaugural address in Silver Jubilee Celebration of Nalanda Open University at Hotel Maurya,Patna on December 27.
CM Mr Manjhi also appealed to the people in the program that we should not only feel the pain of the poor,but also to help the needy from anywhere you are.This compassion is essential for the educated and prosperous Bihar and India.
This Silver Jubilee Celebration was inaugurated by the CM of Bihar Jeetan Jeetan Ram Manjhi by lighting the lamp in the gracious presence of Brishen Patel, minister of education and Prashant Kumar Shahi minister of Environment & Forest and Deparment of Planning & Development,Bihar,NOU vice chancellor Prof (Dr) Rash Bihar Prasad Singh and registrar (E) Dr SP Singh at Hotel Maurya inPatna .
The program began with melodious and spiritual prayer song of Goddess Saraswati by singer Subhadra Virendra.All ministers were honored with mementos of copper Lord Buddha. Education minister of Bihar Brishen Patel announced a grant of Rs 1.56 crore in the program for the construction of it's boundary wall on the land for it's permanent campus at Rajgir.
"The Nalanda Open University was established on March 22, 1987 and the University has now entered in the 27th year of its existence but celebrations hardly need any calendar. The 4th oldest open and distance learning University of India is now set to make a grand take- off by starting several new courses, having employment prospect. We plan to reach at the doorstep of learners, no matter where the student is." said NOU vice chancellor Prof (Dr) Rash Bihari Prasad Singh in the program.
Ten former genius vice chancellors of NOU including first founder vice chancellor Late Dr Kumar Vimal's wife Savitri Devi,Dr Shamshad Hussain,Prof Dr Bishwanath Agrawal,Prof Dr Usha Singh (first genius woman botanist VC of NOU),Prof Dr K.K.Jha (symbol of simple living & high thinking),V.S. Dubey,IAS, Dr Jitendra Singh (architect & town planner),Dr Arun Kumar,Dr Kaushlendra Kumar, and Er ELSN Bala Prasad,IAS were honored with shawls and beautiful silver mementos by the CM and the guest ministers.
On this occasion winner students were honored with cheques and certificates in the essay and debate contests. Parbha Kumari (MA, history) and Tanvi Sinha (MJMC) won first prizes in the both contests respectively.
