Buddhagaya: The Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, visited Jaya Siri Maha Bodhi Vihara (Maha Bodhi Society of India, Buddhagaya Centre) and paid respect to relics of the Buddha and his two chief disciples, Venerable Mahamogallana and Venerable Sariputta on Saturday.
The Honourable Prime Minister was welcomed by Venerable P Seewalee Thero and Venerable K Medhankara Thero at the Jaya Siri Maha Bodhi Vihara where he prayed. He gifted a series of books to the Maha Bodhi Society of India which named is "The Modi Effect" and Maha Bodhi Society of India presented him a statue of the Buddha. Modi wrote "May peace and harmony spread in all over the world" on visitors' book at the Maha Bodhi Society of India, Buddhagaya Centre.
After arriving at Buddhagaya, Honourable Prime Minister went straight to the Maha Bodhi Temple, where Venerable Mahasangha led him special prayers and he meditates under the Bodhi tree where Gautama Buddha have attained enlightenment.
