President and Prime Minister pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary

Rich tributes were paid by President and Prime Minister to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary today. Second October is the birth anniversary of both Mahatma Gandhi, father of the nation and Lal Bahadur Shastri, former prime minister of the country.

The President of India Pranab Mukherjee paid floral tributes at the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, Former Prime Minister of India at Kirnahar Shib Chandra High School on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.  He also marked the day by flagging off children squads at Kirnahar Shib Chandra High School, Birbhum, West Bengal on "Swatchh Bharat Abhiyan", says a PIB release.

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi also paid tribute to the two leaders saying, "Pujay Bapu to Shat-shat naman - I bow to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary." In regard of Shasriji, he said that he bows profusely to Shri Lal Bahadur Shasriji for his determination, simplicity and slogan of 'jai Jawan, Jai Kisan'.

Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar today administered the pledge of the Swachh Bharat Mission along with the senior officials and staff of the Ministry.  He also released the audio track "Swachh Bharat ka Irada Kar liya hum ne" composed by Prasoon Joshi.

The song track was played at the India Gate Ceremony graced by hon'ble Prime Minister earlier this morning. Javadekar  along with his senior officials took part in the cleaning drive in the premises of Shastri Bhawan.
