Gunupur and Rayagada towns of Rayagada district observed Bandh on February 20 in protest against the death of District welfare officer who had committed suicide in his office on Monday. According to official sources of information, the D.W.O Dhaneswar Prusty, had committed suicide inside his office room. The opposition leaders demanded high level probe in to the incident on Tuesday.
The Odisha Govt handed over the investigation of this case to the Crime branch immediately on Tuesday. The D.W.O's wife Kamini Sahu alleged that her husband was not in a position to tolerate the harassment at the hand of Collector Dr Sasi Bhusan Padhi and PAITDA Gourachand Gomango the police also seized the suicide note in which the deceased D.W.O Dhaneswar Prustay mentioned on Feb 15. In it Prusty had mentioned Collector Sashi Bhusan Padhi and project administration head Gourachand Gomango responsible for his death.
It was farther mentioned in the note that Collector Padhi , in presence of several Govt officials, had abused Prusty on Monday in the grievance cell saying he was not fit for the post of DWO "Prusty reportedly told to some of his close colleagues on the same day about taking the extreme steps some of his co-workers said to this citizen journalist .
Mr Prusty reportedly told the Collector about not getting cooperation from the head clerk and other officials working under the office of DWO Rayagada . Instead of taking action the Collector told Prusty why you came to Rayagada at this age. Ms Kamini Sahu wife of deceased told the news men.
The deceased officer's wife Ms Kamini Sahu had also filed a case against the Collector and PAITDA with Rayagada Police station the police confirmed. MLA Tara Prashad Bhanipati also told assembely that lady teacher Itishree Sahoo had committed suicide early as her grievances were not addressed by the District Administration in spite of her representations several times (Sashi Bhusan Padhi ) mean while the District Lawyers Association Rayagada today (20.02.2014 ) extended its support to the Bandh demanding immediate transfer of the Collector and impartial inquiry into the incident to punish the guilty.
