Senior Congress Leader, Janardhan Dwivedi has called for an end to reservations on caste lines.
Senior Congress Leader, Janardhan Dwivedi has called for an end to reservations on caste lines in Government jobs etc. while stating that casteism has taken over the concept of social justice. Social justice has already been done and now casteism has come to the fore, he is stated to have said.
He has favoured reservations to economically weaker sections of the society irrespective of their caste and had recommended his proposal to Rahul Gandhi, the Vice President of the Congress party.
According to Dwivedi, the quota system on caste lines would have ended but for the powerful vested interests. He has stated that it is not the poor among the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes or OBCs who are getting the benefit under reservation quota but only the upper crust of these people.
Dwivedi has raised his demand for abolition of the reservation quota on caste lines when Congress party with an eye on Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2014, were trying to have a sub quota for the minorities out of OBC quota and were also trying to have reservations in promotion for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. They were also toying with the idea of reservations for Jats under the OBC quota.
