This change of single parenthood has been used by some to discussion that we are witnessing the breakdown of the family, with negative effects for children, women, families, social -cultural values and society.
SINGLE PARENT families can be defined as families where a parent lives with dependent children, either alone or in a larger household, without a spouse or partner. There was a rapid and drastic increase in the number of single-parent families in the latter half of the twentieth century. This change has been used by some to discussion that we are witnessing the breakdown of the family, with negative effects for children, women, families, social -cultural values and society.
Others suggest that single-parent families have been present in all societies over time and should not be viewed as deviant or problematic, but rather as an alternative family form. Regardless of how family diversity is viewed, the increase in and prevalence of families headed by one parent has a major influence on the social, economic, and political context of family life.
Yesterday my daughter who is NRI in USA came to me for a solution of some problem of her friend's family ,who has only few months old son. Further she continued her version by saying that recently her friend lost her father and mother is all alone in neighboring house. Her friend is working so she could not take her son's proper care ,while her widow mother can be little relaxed by indulging in activities of her grand son and by this way her trauma could be deducted.
But all this arrangement is just not possible in particular cultural value system. In society where single parenthood is common phenomenon and every alternative family is compelled to live life of single parenthood, where every earning member even in her/his teens reside separately from parents and transfer of wealth and property can not be transferred to their children ,such value system is giving pains to most of women.
As mothers have maternity instinct and they are more closer and concerned to their children and sometimes they even do not trust on their husband's participation in infants activities. Such value system needs to be changed.
She wondered such a nice value system is working great at her friend's family .In non Indian family women is willing to share every thing with her mother ,her son also likes presence of his grandmother but due to husband's role all three can not live together and this type of circumstance gives birth to new single parenthood family. There are many such other reasons of single parenthood.
In above case her friend is asking solution from her Indian friend, whose mother resides with her daughter and son ,rather they have called to their mother to take care of their baby during their office hours. On hearing ,Indian friend's story ,she further inquired about the attitude of her husband towards mother's residing with them. On getting positive response ,she encouraged to take such steps.
