According to Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Education Committee Chairman Dr Mahinder Nagpal, smart cards will be introduced in MCD schools soon.

About 10 lakh children are studying in MCD schools currently. The smart cards will contain details about students like their name, address, health status and blood group. The cards can also be used for availing benefits by the students under various schemes of the MCD.

"Smart cards will be issued for lifetime and only class, year and roll number would need to be changed every year in the data through computers, “said Nagpal.

A smart card is a pocket-sized card with embedded integrated circuits to provide strong security authentication for single sign-on within large organizations for efficient management of its beneficiaries. It contains a tamper-resistant security system for application-data updates.

These days, smart cards are in use for personal identification and entitlement schemes at regional and national levels in many countries.
