State of Assam is nicely remembering Mahatma Gandhiji on his birthday today (October 2) - 60 lakh students to write essay on Gandhiji today

State of Assam has planned to keep open Government schools and colleges in a bid to keep the young generation connected with the values of Mahatma Gandhiji.  Chief highlights on this nice observance of Mahatma Gandhiji's birthday initiated by the State of Assam are as follows:

- About sixty lakh students are likely to participate in an essay writing competition and this is all about Gandhiji.

- All the essays written by the students will be preserved.

-  Organizers of the Guinness World Record authorities have been approached for keeping a track on this initiative

- According to the State Government Education Minister it is mandatory for all teachers to come to school on this day and any absence will be set off against allotted one day casual leave

- This initiative has been primarily undertaken to create awareness among the younger students about the life of Mahatma Gandhiji and his philosophy of ahimsa

- Plans also include for writing essay competitions, debates and quiz competitions at all levels of education like primary, secondary and college levels and students are mandated to participate in these competitions.  The competitions will be held at the school, block, district and State levels.

It is hoped that such notable initiatives can bring about a nice change amongst a large section of the student population for taking the State and the country to higher levels.  More such initiatives should be taken from different parts of the country.
