State run Jeevandhan Project - Disclose the priority list information
TR. Madhavan | 24 Dec 2014

Due to growing demand among the patients suffering from end-stage organ failures the patients request for the need of more transparency about the priority list based on which donor organs are distributed free of cost under Jeevandhan project.

Presently, only hospitals and Jeevandhan officials have access to the priority list, while the patients from whom the list is made, do not have access to it.

The patients or their relatives argue that, in allotting the organ when there is no favoritism or preference to person needing it based on their financial status or ability to influence, why the officials are not making allocation system public.

The guidelines for organ allocation depends on patient's medical urgency, blood, tissue and size match with the donor, time on the waiting list and proximity to the donor. Still one doubts whether the rules are followed, because neither the private hospitals nor the Jeevandhan update the status to the patient.
