"Stop attacks on Muslims, Stop Communal Divisions for Electoral gains"
Kabir | 27 Jan 2014

In a well attended seminar on "Stop attacks on Muslims, Stop Communal Divisions for Electoral gains" held at Pal Dharamshala, Muzaffarnagar various speakers came down heavily on both the Hindutwa forces led by RSS, BJP for these attacks as well as the SP govt for permitting them, handing over relief work to Jamait e Ulema and other agencies of the Samajwadi party and not safeguarding the interests of the poor victims of these attacks.

The hall was decorated with various banners boldly raising the demands of the day "Arrest the accused of murders, rapes and property capture", "Stop withdrawing cases, reinvestigated all accused given clean chit by police", "Grant compensation to each family unit of displaced", "Confiscate properties of named MPs and MLAs", "End Communal behaviour of police and administration", "Arrest officers responsible for maintaining peace", "Give security to victims", "Apologise for getting affidavit signed that all rights on properties captured will be foregone" amongst others."Arrest the accused of murders, rapes and property capture", "Stop withdrawing cases, reinvestigated all accused given clean chit by police", "Grant compensation to each family unit of displaced", "Confiscate properties of named MPs and MLAs", "End Communal behaviour of police and administration", "Arrest officers responsible for maintaining peace", "Give security to victims", "Apologize for affidavit denying Muslims the all rights on their properties captured".

Introducing the issue, Com Mital explained how the state govt has permitted vicious anti Muslim propaganda by RSS/ BJP and despite prior information allowed their senior leaders to mobilize its cadres to the point of attacking Muslims in Faizabad, Pratapgarh, Kosi Kalan, Mousourie, Barielly. Even after attacks the police acted against the victims and largely allowed the attackers to go scot free. SP govt is only trying to gain from terrorizing the Muslim community, providing relief through Muslim religious leaders and making them electorally rally the scared community behind it. SP has no positive program for Muslims and has failed to get innocent Muslim youth arrested on false terrorism charges and in jail without trial released. He called for a united struggle against all anti people policies and communal forces.

Former Editor of Indian Express Sri Saeed Naqvi said that Islam religion came to India from the times of its inception during Mohammad Sahab's time. Since then people of both religions have lived together celebrating Id and Diwali together. But the forces which divided India in 1947 fractured the united social fabric and today it is not just BJP and RSS or Congress and SP alone, they are part of the same game plan to sell the country to imperialist forces. Imperialism he said is displacing people world over, including in Syria, Iraq, Egypt and also in India. All these people being forcefully displaced need to unite and fight for liberty. He read a long poem explaining that mother nature he said belongs to every child born and it is his and her right to earn and live. He welcomed that the people are coming out in struggle and looking for political change.

Prof. NK Bhattacharya spoke at length of rising hunger and food insecurity, handing over of power sector, Retail trade, agricultural marketing, mineral wealth to Multinational Companies at the behest of the World Bank and WTO policies. This is causing massive unemployment, price rise, corruption and foreigners are increasing their control while Indian people are being displaced from land and means of livelihood. He said central and UP govts are repeatedly intensifying communal divisions to unleash severe repression on the people and prevent them from building a united struggle against the anti people policies. He exhorted women to come out as leaders in struggle.

Speaking on behalf of the independent enquiry report of the Muzaffarnagar 'riots' by intellectuals from Delhi,  Prof Ish Misra and Dr. Vikas Vajpayee said that the trigger provided by Kaval incident was massively misreported and passions aroused by RSS and ruling class Jat leaders and landlord elements from BSP, Congress, Lok Dal, SP to portray Muslims as kidnapers of Hindu girls, arousing passions for 'saving honour of Hindus'. A social problem of atrocities on women done by anti socials of all communities on women was used to attack Muslims, mostly poor people. They were killed, their women were raped and their properties snatched and destroyed by criminals masquarading as 'saviours of womens' honour'.

They condemned the SP govt for getting the affidavit signed by victims of violence swearing that in lieu of the compensation they will give up all claims to their houses, land, ancestral properties. This they said is denying basic citizen rights to the victims and SP govt is doing this to instil fear in the victims and push them into political subservience of those Muslim leaders, who have acted as agents of the Samajwadi Party.

They came down harsh on the district administration for not arresting the more than 6000 accused who they said are pressurizing the victims to withdraw the complaints.
They explained in detail the abysmal conditions in camps and called for improving the facilities, provision of security to enable victims to go back to their homes and grant of compensation to each family unit of displaced.

In the beginning the gathering was welcomed by advocate Satyaketu and Fatma BegumDr UB Singh, Head of Deptt, Geography in SD college and President of the Teachers Union criticized the administration for paying no head to the plight of the poor especially Muslims and exhorted the people to come out and struggle.

The gathering was also addressed by CPIML leader Shamshad from Bijnor, Nasir from Haridwar. The proceedings were conducted by UP AIKMS President Dharampal Singh and presided over by Prof Subhash TyagiCom. Heeralal of AIKMSCom Radhyeshyam of IFTU.
