The self styled God-Man Sura Baba is under the clutches of the police

Sura baba alias Surendra Mishra foreteller running an Achyuta Asharam at Jhinti near capital city of Odisha, Bhubaneswar.The Ashram is within about 14 acres of land wherein he constructed Siva temple, a palatial building to live in and for devotees, a very big swimming pool developed.

 The Ashram which was running with number of disciples, Ashram staff of both sex including the private security turned into police camp after the arrest of Sura baba alias Surendra Mishra and his two sons, Trilochan and Biranchi Narayan, who are now under the custody of Crime Branch of Police after being produced before the Judicial Magistrate first class, Cuttack on Monday and taken to the police custody from Tuesday. Initially the commission rate of police taken up the case and later handed over to the Crime Branch as per the orders passed by the Government. It was tough to police to control the mob of about two thousand those who pelted stones on unarmed police demanding the arrest of Sura Baba after the arrest of two dreaded criminals belonging to Bihar recently from the Ashram by the Bihar Police. The public also damaged more than 15 four wheelers parked near ashram, two wheelers and burnt the houses in and out side of the ashram. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Satyabrat Bhoi and Additional DCP were also injured in the attack. Section 144 has been promulgated in and around the ashram before nabbing Sura baba and his two sons. The police decided to obtain permission for another five days for remand of the three for further interrogation from Friday. Sura baba who used to predict on the basis of an antique palm leaf manuscript, had made money running some crores of rupees. Baba spent lavish live with countless followers of both the sex. Former Prime Minister P.V.Narasimha Rao, former Odisha Chief Minister J.B.Patnaik, BJD and BJP leaders also set to have visited the ashram. The Government identified as a place of tourist interest in 2009 but this was removed from Odisha tourism web on 03/09/2015. A self-styled godman Sura baba enjoyed sailing on a boat in swimming pool developed inside the ashram. The girls were seen pooling the decorated chariot carrying Sura baba once in a year. Private security team was assigned to provide security to him, followers and ashram on payment. The Sura baba was declared himself as re-incarnation of Shree Krishna. Several complaints registered of land grabbing, sexual exploitation of women and making money. The Crime Branch formed number of teams to probe the complaints registered in various police stations. A wad of currency notes, in the denominations of one thousand, five hundred and one hundred were found from iron chest, lockers and gunny bags in an office manned by Sura baba were seized on Thursday last besides palm leaf manuscript. The Crime Branch Police busy in counting the seized currency even brought counting machines for the same. Around seven accounts in the Achyuta Nagar Branch of State Bank of India amounting of Rs.2.4 Crores seized by the Crime Branch on Thursday. The accounts were in the name of Surendra, his wife, two sons and two daughters in laws under the Achyuta Nanda Trust.  A man enjoying political influence and maintained royal life is spending his days in a dark room beyond bars.
