A WELL-balanced diet is necessary to boost the immune system. Choose food wisely. Intake of high carbohydrates gives more chances for microbes to invade the linings of digestive tracts. Consume plenty of organic protein and animal fats.

Vitamin C supplements: Vitamin C is one of the best foods to prevent cold. Include a cup of vitamin C rich fruits or homemade juices from citrus fruits. Avoid processed juices as they contain high sugar content and synthetic vitamin C.

Hygienic lifestyle: Follow a hygienic lifestyle. Sanitize hand before cooking and eating; cover your nose when sneezing or coughing. Avoid roadside foods, drinks etc. Keep your house and surroundings clean.

Avoid antibiotics: Take an antibiotic only if your condition is worse. Frequent use of antibiotics will kill the useful bacteria that line the digestive tract. The best remedy for cold or flu attack is good rest.  Adopt natural remedies like honey and lime drink, turmeric and pepper in milk, etc. Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.
