Toyota had first showcased the Etios Cross at the 2014 Auto Expo in New Delhi. The Etios maybe based on the Etios Liva hatchback, but is totally rugged in style. The Etios Cross is a pseudo crossover and the first from a Japanese company in India.

The Toyota Etios Cross looks different with the black plastic cladding running across the bumper and sides that add to the rugged appeal. The front and rear scuff plates are lined with silver. The lower portion of the side cladding has silver touches as well. The Etios Cross has a prominent trapezoidal grille with vertical slats. The grille frame has been finished in silver as well. The grille adds to the aggressive appearance to the hatchback. The Etios Cross also gets 15-inch diamond finish alloy wheels. The crossover look is accentuated by the roof rails that can hold up to 50 kg of luggage. The Cross has a blackened B-pillar, rear defogger, rear spoiler, turn indicators on the rear view mirrors and fog lights. The boot is reasonably big at 251 litres.

Interior

The cabin space is same as the Etios Liva. The interiors have a piano black finish. The seats come with white stitching and Etios Cross badging. The other features are 2-DIN audio system with Bluetooth, USB, AUX- and remote and leather wrapped steering wheel with audio controls. The Cross also gets driver seat height adjusts, tachometer with digital clock as part of standard kit.



Technical Sepcifications

The Etios Cross is available in three engine options and two trim levels. The Etios Cross has two petrol engines and one diesel engine. The 1.2 L variant has a four cylinder, DOHC engine with a maximum power of 79 bhp @ 5600 rpm and a torque output of 104 Nm. The 1.5 L DOHC engine which is a 4-cylinder unit is available on the top variant. This engine pumps out a power output of 89 bhp @ 5600 rpm while its maximum torque output is 132 Nm. The only diesel engine available in this car is a 1.4 L turbocharged, 4-cylinder engine which has a power of 68 bhp @ 3800 rpm and torque output of 170 Nm. All these engines are mated to a five speed manual gearbox supplying power to its front wheels only.  Mileage for this engine is 16.78 kmpl for the 1.2 L and 17.71 kmpl for the 1.5 petrol. The diesel has an efficiency of 23.59 kmpl.

Final words
