Turbaned Sikh ignored while forming his cabinet: Rana Sodhi
HARISH DIDO | 28 May 2014

Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, Congress MLA from Guruharsahai Assembly in Punjab's Ferozepur district, while congratulating Narendra Modi for assuming the charge as Prime Minister of India stated that although the efforts of the Prime Minister in down -sizing his cabinet are commendable yet some imbalance in giving representation to various areas is conspicuous by absence of any Sikh gentleman.

It may be mentioned that Sikh turbaned who won the Lok Sabha elections from Punjab are Prem Singh Chandumajra from Anandpur Sahib, Sher Singh Ghubaya from Ferozepur, Ranjit Singh Brahmpura from Khadoor Sahib besides Harsimrat Kaur Badal of SAD from Bathinda.

Needless to mention that Sikh Community has a history of supreme sacrifices, in defending the country and the civil society. Starting from fighting the Mughals to the struggle for independence, Sikhs have always been in the forefront. He stated that so far, Sikh Community has always found place in all the union cabinets with the exception of present Modi Cabinet which has hurt them.

Rana Sodhi further stated that the Congress Party had always ensured not only representation of a turbaned gentleman in the successive cabinet formations but elected Giani Zail Singh as President of India and Dr. Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister who presided over the destiny of the nation for ten years.

He stated that it is baffling as to why Modi has ignored turbaned Sikh while forming his cabinet. He was very vocal in seeking support for his electoral success while campaigning in Punjab but while choosing his Ministers, he has completely ignored inclusion of a turbaned Sikh.

Rana Sodhi hoped that while carrying out expansion, as he has stated, he will keep this fact in mind.
