Vice President Ansari releases the book ‘On World Religions – Diversity, Not Dissension’
Dr. Lalit Kishore | 06 Mar 2014

The book ‘On World Religions – Diversity, Not Dissension’ compiled and edited by philosopher Anandita was released by the Vice President of India, M. Hamid Ansari recently, stated a PIB release. The book is based on the proceedings of an interfaith conference organized by Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) of Government of India.

It is to be noted that the contributors to this volume have devoted themselves to studying specific facets of this vast and intricate theme over many years of their respective professional careers. The interview with HH Dalai Lama, Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, Karan Singh and Reverend Mpho Tutu forms the key feature of this book, inform the publishers.

"Based on the ideas propagated by Swami Vivekananda, this book presents a brief survey of various approaches to religion and offers different perspectives of religious diversity. Scholars and philosophers of many religious traditions examine the social and cultural issues that lie at the interstices of this religious diversity," added the PIB release.

Releasing the book, Ansari said that the subject of book was a familiar one yet remained unresolved for reasons difficult to understand and the word 'tolerance' was a negative concept and needs to be replaced with a positive one. Congratulating the editor and ICCR for bringing out a very purposeful book, Ansari was of the opinion that that in human history, religion and faith system have become the locus of conflicts. He congratulated the editor of the book and ICCR for bringing out a very purposeful book.

The book, with an appeal to those intellectuals who are interested in Philosophy, Religion, History, Culture and Asian Studies, throws light on several mega trends—knowledge revolution, a new kind of humanism stressing on the rights of underprivileged people, equality of gender, and protection against all forms of exploitation, injustice along with the awareness towards environmental concerns, as well as spiritual revolution—all characteristics of a new age, hold the publishers.

This 320-page book, published by SAGE Publications, 'presents a brief survey of various approaches to religion and offers different perspectives of religious diversity. Scholars and philosophers of many religious traditions examine the social and cultural issues that lie at the interstices of this religious diversity'.
