It refers to welcome breakthrough achieved amongst civil-society led by Anna Hazare and Union government on forming a joint committee to draft an effective Lokpal Bill according to people’s aspirations.
It is definitely a start of new era when front-runners of this great movement have not minced words in continuing the mission further for effective poll-reforms, judicial accountability and other such over-delayed and much-needed reforms.
It was indeed fault of Union government that matter reached to such a big movement. It should have sensed the public-mood by considering Jan Lokpal Bill at initial stage instead of going ahead with its own-prepared toothless Bill in this regard.
To prevent such public-anger in future, it should request the joint-drafting committee to draft similar bills on poll-reforms and judicial accountability. Union government and Anna Hazare led activists should also ensure that biased sections like those demanding reservation may not be able to adopt similar tactics to force government on non-genuine demands.
