The US armed forces are now bombing Libya, killing Libyans. What is the goal and what will be the cost? Why only Libya?
The NATO forces are now bombing Libya, killing Libyans. What is the goal and what will be the cost?
Why only Libya? Yes, Gaddafi is a dictator. He rules by force, denies his people freedom and kills those who oppose him. Yet, this is true of the leaders of the other countries listed in the headline. Why is only Libya being invaded?
Some Libyan protested against Gaddafi, he broke up the protests, some people were killed. The rebels then started shooting at government soldiers and police, took over heavier weapons from army depots and headed for the capital city to overthrow the government and try Gaddafi as a war criminal. What would president Obama do if several thousand well armed men were marching on Washington with the stated intent of overthrowing the government and hanging him?
What happens after the bombing? How long does it last? If the rebels march toward Tripoli again and are stopped by Gaddafi, will Obama order US planes to join the rebellion? Will he send in the marines? If not, how many Libyans will die in a protracted stalemate? If Libya is divided, will there be peace or years of civil war?
Just some thoughts and questions on a war that seems to have no definite goals or rules of engagement.
