Yuvraj is a big-match player: Delhi Daredevils
Raj Bhandari | 18 Feb 2015

Delhi Daredevils, throughout their journey in the IPL, have always preferred to stay connected with the cricketers from north of India, especially the capital. The main thrust for that preference was one man - the nawab of Najafgarh, Virender Sehwag.

No matter whether Devils Win or lose any encounter, the supporters always ensured that the Feroze Shah Kotla is filled to its capacity. Although the Daredevils have not been able to make a mark, but this has not deterred the fans from extending unabated support to devils.

Although last year Sehwag was released by the team and he was suitably replaced by Kevin Pietersen, but it takes a while for one to dramatically change the wind in the favor of the team. However, gainfully utilizing the biggest purse among the franchises, Delhi Daredevils seemed determined to improve the strength of the team. Therefore the owner, GMR Group went all out to bring in crowd-puller Yuvraj Singh.

Perhaps he becomes the best replacement for the former star attraction of the team Virender Sehwag.

Hemant Dua, the Delhi daredevils CEO, as reported by aTOI said, "Yuvraj is a big-match player, phenomenal hitter and a darling of the crowds. If there was one pick we wanted from the auction, it was him. We were prepared to go all out for him at any cost and we're glad that we were able to bring him home".

In fact, it became imperative for Delhi, who had finished at the bottom of last season, to release as many as 13 players and to begin with a clean slate. Apart from Yuvraj, the big buys for the Daredevils include Angelo Mathews (Rs 7.5 crore), Zaheer Khan (Rs 4 crore) and Amit Mishra (Rs 3.5 crore).

Imposing faith on newly built team, Dua said "I think we have managed to pick a good crop. Guys like Angelo, Zaheer and Mishra have been around for a long time now. Zaheer will be a good mentor to pacers like Unadkat, Shami and Gurinder Sandhu,"

Perhaps Yuvraj, who had not been included in the World Cup squad, will be the most sought after cricketer in this season. Who knows this might become a wonderful opportunity for him and for team India in future. Whatever the case may be, he has proved to the real brave prince of the millions of the fans.
