K. Radhakrishnan's comment on Pathos of Indian Olympic saga

K. Radhakrishnan's comment on Pathos of Indian Olympic saga
Money for training is spent by the Government of India. From camps, hostels, food, equipment, ammunition, coaches, gymnasiums, exposure trips abroad etc etc all money is spent by the Government. Our athletes do not eat 'chhole bhature' and then hope to conquer the world. That is a completely erroneous assumption the writer seemed to have gained from reading some misleading reports. Our athletes also eat nutritious food recommended by qualified nutritionists. The food might be according to Indian tastes and not of that of Phelps or Bolt. Government has spent crores of rupees in preparation of our athletes. Athletes do not have to travel business class to perform. Almost the whole of British Olympic contingent travelled economy in British Airway while competing in Rio. So did the US contingent, at least the majority of them.Do you think the Chinese, the Kenyans, the Jamaicans, the Japanese and the Russians would be travelling business class? Or staying Five Star? They stay in Games Village, almost 99 per cent of them. Even Rafael Nadal stayed in Village in Rio. Dutee Chand had to clock 11.39s to qualify for the second round in 100 metres. She had done 11.24 in Almaty in June. She did not require to beat Elaine Thomson in final, she needed to clock something close to her best to show that she was capable of competing at Olympics level. She could not. Please stop writing such completely misleading articles about Indian sports not knowing what food our athletes eat, who spends for equipment and coaches, how others travel, where athletes stay etc. It will benefit Indian sport. Just as we might quickly forget about Dutee Chand and Dipa Karmakar, as the writer fears, we will also forget about Simone Biles and Katie Ledecky. Rest of the time we will follow our cricket team. That is nothing new. Not a discovery!
