BSNL launches ambitious programme to improve connectivity in North-East region
To improve the level of connectivity in rural and tribal areas of the northeast the state-run telecom service provider BSNL has launched an ambitious programme to reach out to the rural population for effective governance through Common Service Centres (CSCs). Under this programme about 1300 CSCs are to be established in the region.

Certainties, yet uncertainty: Results of polls in three North Eastern states
Three North Eastern states that went to the polls on February 23 2013 are now poised to form governments. While the CPI (M) had a landslide victory in Tripura, in fact, getting an absolute majority, the other two states had single party majority winners - Congress in Meghalaya and the Naga People's Front in Nagaland.

In Meghalaya, the Left Front led by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), increased its vote share compared to 2008. Since 1993 for the fifth straight time the Congress and its allies, the indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) and the Nationalist Conference of Tripura, faced a humiliating defeat.
